On both XC60's when new I managed 47 ish to the gallon over about 80 miles on the return journey. It quickly dropped. Just opening the door and looking at the car, the mpg seemed to drop!!!!

I reckon reading over all the mpg threads that 35 is a ball park figure. I drive (or thought I did) reasonably eco style and only get around 32 (50/50 urban motorway) whereas the wife manages 35, which is strange because she forgets about 6th gear on the motorway and often leaves it in 4th when it should be in 5th.

Just as a note, the 2009 XC60 D5 AWD Geartronic I had returned an avg of 36mg during the time I had it. Quite low IMO but the figure improved quite dramatically once I started using it on faster German autobahn's and despite the higher speeds, the mpg actually went up!

Funny you should say that about 6th gear...
I've worked out from watching the dash MPG to only use 6th on level or down hill roads. Simply monitor the usage on the same sections of road using 4th, 5th or 6th depending on the incline.

Had to drive to Luton airport last night to pick up granddaughter.

Cruised up at around 68 in cruise control. Stats said 49.6 mpg. All gentle motorway.

Came back with limiter on 82. Reset stats. Read 39.8.
