Default s60 warbling / grinding noise when turning right

Howdy folks,

s60 / 2008 / RHD / D5 (D5244T4) Automatic

I have what can only be described as a warbling noise / grinding noise (but not metallic) coming from the RHS when turning the steering wheel through 2 o'clock and continuing throughout a sustained right-hand turn. The noise stops when I return the steering wheel to the centre and is not present at all during a left-hand turn.

The noise only happens when I have power to the wheels - i.e. when I have my foot off the accelerator or in neutral, there is no noise.

Having read lots of posts, I think it can be narrowed down-to:
  • Failed top strut mount.
  • Failed wheel bearing.
  • Problem with the CV joint.
  • Failed ABS reluctor ring (no ABS warning light displayed during the turn, so don't think its this).
  • Failed engine mount.

I'm afraid that it might be a problem with the drive / CV joint given that this only happens when power is going to the wheels....

So, any suggestions or pointers as to where to focus my efforts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Nick.
