Default Finally got out of the house

Finally got out of the house (Jess of course gets out every evening for her 10K daily walk for The Sickle Cell Society. As of yesterday she's walked 984.97 miles.)

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jess-rosewell

Me - I'm not a walker..

Anyway, we decided to drive to Wells-Next-The-Sea and get some fresh air. I decided to take the 05 XC70 with the 163 D5 and see what kind of mileage I'd get.

Lovely place..

The onboard computer read 60.9mpg average when parked back home -145 mile round trip.

Tomorrow we'll do it again with the 08 XC70 D5 Lux Polestar. I am making a guess the mileage will be in the 40's - maybe low 50's as it's on B roads and seldom over 60mph.

Default Finally got out of the house - Two

Interesting day.

Who would have thought we BOTH would be bombed (as well as the car) by bird crap?

Jess in the side of her head - luckily I shaved her this morning so just glanced off - and me a Bulls Eye in the chest - someone has learned not to just drop - but by using speed has learned how to slingshot his/her bombs horizontally.

Still a lovely day - much warmer as the wind was from the west and not the sea.

As for the mileage - Eeek.

37.7

I am hoping the low average speed 25 mpg (lots of cars) and the bottle of Liqui Moly Catalytic cleaner had a hand in that as she clearly didn't like the stuff…

I'll see what I get once we're on bigger roads than the once we've been on - still - amazing difference between the stock 163 Euro 3 and this Polestar Euro 4.

I think I know which one to take next time we head to Sweden..

Euro 4’s are no where near as good on fuel as the euro 3’s.

The emissions gibbons added to the euro 4 certainly didn’t help fuel economy!

Yesterday (June 19) we did the trip to Wells-Next-The-Sea again.

Partly to verify the 163 XC70 mileage, partly to raid an antics store, partly for another visit to French's for Fish and Chips.

I did not reset the onboard computer and when we arrived back home again it read 60.6.

Reinforced my decision to hang onto this car..

Just ordered genuine front and rear discs for £185 from Riverside Volvo.

Double the price of Brembo discs but as I plan to do the job myself I thought I'd put the savings in labour into getting the best bits .

Am I correct that I need VIDA to wind back the rear callipers?

Just need to find a good deal on pads and fluid now.

Found some quality fluid for a decent price:

2L of ATE SL6 DOT4 for £17 delivered from ECP.

You don’t need VIDA to wind the rear caliper back. You can use a small 9v battery with two leads, as shown in this video.

£185 sounds very reasonable for front & rear discs.

Mill Volvo in Newcastle wanted £185 for front discs & pads. Is it me, or does that sound expensive?

Thanks for the video mate, looks easy enough!

Sounds like the going rate really, I just managed to find some for a good price on eBay from Riverside Volvo and they had a best offer option, so I managed to get another £20 off with that. But yeah £185 for front discs + pads seems fair, plenty of places are charging £185 just for the discs.

Out of interest does anyone know the min. disc thickness?

Is it 26mm front, and 20mm rear? (316mm diameter fronts, and vented rears)
