Default Transmission Service Required

I had the message "Transmission Service Required" - I have not seem this before in my five years of ownership. Annual service due in a few weeks - am I ok to keep driving?

It's at this point that your own VIDA/DiCE would put your mind at rest.

Have you ever had the transmission fluid changed? Could be due being 11 years old.

Personally, I’d get the codes read sooner rather than later. Transmission’s are expensive.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have a VIDA machine, but will get the car checked out by my local "indy". As I said, no adverse problems - just the message came up - after turning the engine off, the message did not, and has not appeared again.

I would get it checked as soon as you can. The message is confusing, when you see "Transmission Service" it usually means there's been something wrong rather then it needs scheduled maintenance. It could be that the fluid is old and has been overheated too many times, but if that was the case the message would persist.

Some conditions that can cause the message would progressively damage the gearbox, so best to get it checked.

Following my first post on this subject on the 1st June, the car has today been into the garage for investigation. I should point out the message has not appeared again and the car is running as normal.

The garage carried out fault diagnostics:
fault codes stored for torque convertor solenoids.
Road test and all driving ok.
Carried out gearbox oil change as 1st step.
Reset oil counters and reset gearbox adaptions.
Carried out further road rest - all ok - Please monitor.

As I said, the car is running normally, no clonks when selecting gear or when box operating. The garage did a history check and the transmission fluid had never been changed.

I will obviously keep an eye on things. Many thanks for the advice.
