I would definitely second that, Seb is a totally trustworthy & vastly knowledgeable & passionate guy when it comes to Volvo.

But turn up with a RS200 and you get welcomed with open arms
I tired this with 4 separate places for welding work and general MOT preparation for this primera GT contacted 4 classic garages who specialise in welding even some did normal MOT work. All 4 made excuses but… two weeks later I sent up a bogus email account and email them all again changing the car.RS200 oh and guess what! All three excepted the work and wanted to book me in. Just a disgrace my money is good an another and a car is a car. Just discrimination at the highest level.

It’s the old boys club again. If your face ain’t white and does not fit you will be black balled. Or just basic looks and appearance. Older men who work in these places just see a young customer as a joke. And don’t take them seriously and if you get far enough to have a conversation with one. You will get abused and talked down to and made to feel like you don’t belong.

Thanks for wasting a good 3 years of my life and about 30k but I’ll get my own back. All these rare parts you guys need which I have collected are all going in the local tip eBay is full of scammers. And two out of three cars are going in storage and will be damaged beyond repair and scraped next year.

Just about to collect the NMCFG fresh start away from classics and car hobby although I will still have my driving hobby which is quite detached from everything as you don’t need to be a mechanic for that!

New hobby is cats

Bye , Jim

I didn't read his post as racist in itself. I saw it the other way round: as a reference to the racism he's experienced when trying to get help with his car problems.

As someone who is also young, I've not experienced this at all. The garage I use has a wide array of clientele, from young lads with a rusty Austin Allegro and another restoring a Porsche 924, to old classic Italian and Americana, to modern supercars, and everything in-between.

Primera GTs are nice cars, one of the best handling saloons from the 90s by all accounts, and was the first privateer car to win a BTCC race. They just need about 50hp more umph.

Cats (and dogs) are pointless busywork, but enjoy.

An awful lot of garages are just really bad. They might be snobbish about a Primera “not being to a classic”, and might think you’re going to waste their time…if so, take it somewhere else!

You’re right, there aren’t that many non-white people in the Volvo “scene”. Not sure why that is, but I’m confident that it’s not that they’re not welcome…and for that matter one of the best-known and most active people in the scene over the past 15 years or so isn’t white, and is welcomed just like everyone else.

I don’t know the back-story here, but it seems a shame to bin useful and valuable parts. FWIW, I buy and sell a fair bit on eBay, and very rarely have any trouble.

cheers

James

there are plenty of non white folk in the northern volvo groups with facebook groups you can look up the person to see who and what they look like mostly .un like the forums where people are mainly anonymous dependant on what they put on there profile.

You are just going to the wrong places or going in with the wrong attitude. My customers range in age from 16 year olds getting a car ready for learning to drive a few regular customers in their 80's just wanting to keep the car going for as long as they can stay driving

Typical garages are only interested in simple service and brake changes

As to Electric cars the tide is already turning on them and finding garages that will work on them will be even harder

There are more than you might think but yes non-white people only represent a small percentage of the Volvo scene but one of the best known faces the late Robert DIY has provided a great video information watched by us all
