25-30 seems about right for the 700/900 range......am getting 24.3 to 30.1 from my 940 manual 2.3 "classic" estate. I found I tended to get less from my 700's - but they were £200-£300 "runners"! The extravagance of paying £700 for my 940 with a decent service history etc seems to be paying off!

There will be a slight improvement in efficiency with more sophisticated engine control. Also the LPT should be more economical, if you are careful. I find I like my right foot though.

My manual LPT used to get mid twenties mostly, I managed 31mpg on a motorway run mostly at 60mph earlier this year, not long before it died. Normal 70mph was 28mpg.

My new auto only gets 20mpg on my rural commute, with a slightly heavier foot, that's 300 miles/ 65litres. The last owner got only 250 miles, so I must be good. I need to get its tracking done before I do a long trip but I anticipate nearer to the manual on a long run as the top gear is just as tall for both cars.

Hi all,

On a run to north Wales mine (1989 GLE 2.3 injection estate) once clocked 37mpg driven gently.

I doubt it could still return that kind of figure, we're going back to when it was alot younger!

Thanks

Jim

1990 740 2.3 16v manual...anywhere between 25-30 usually, never any more but I do tend to hoof it. driving it gently didnt seem to make any noticeable difference.

I've only filled up twice since I've owned it, but got 27.5mpg and 24mpg so far.

I try and drive to the car's pace as much as possible!

Thumbs up

Did 300 miles in a brand new (8000 miles) Ford Galaxy Wednesday. Got 27 mpg. Its an enormous car but less comfy than a 900 and suffers from front-wheel-drive, (scrabble and torque-steer).

I think the 900 compares pretty well to a £25 000 modern car.
