Default Central Locking Upgrade

Is it possible to upgrade the central locking slightly on the Celebration Estate so that it operates from the passenger door lock and not just the drivers door? This really frustrates me....

Brenda.

Incidentally the remote system gave up the ghost ages ago, hence the added frustration.

Hi,

Maybe, if you get the lock mechanism from a southpaw car. There is an additional motor or controller that sends the lock/unlock signal from the drivers side unit.

Or would it not be better to sort out the remote system? Worth considering. What's wrong with it??

Probably nothing wrong with the central locking system as such. What is wanted is possibly a remote system. Some folks like to be able to 'unlock' the whole car from either side rather than just opening the front passenger door only. One click on the remote button and you can open even the back door(s) just to get something out without the need to get to the driver's door first.

360dood has installed a remote system in his 360 to great success.

Des= thank you. But what is a southpaw car??

Migrator.You\'re right there is nothing wrong with the central locking system per se.

But the remote system wouldnt activate/deactivate with the fob.

I had to get so close to the drivers side of the car that I was practically inside before it would work. Not a Volvo idea surely! Anyway, i\'ve changed the batteries many times, but to no avail.

Can anyone help?

What I can tell you is that my US issue 965 works on both doors.

Southpaw - Leftie - Left handed - LHD

If you are having issues with the fob the you'll want to re-program the fob (and any other fobs you have at the same time) to the car.

Instructions have been posted here before somewhere.

Volvo Wagon Fan. It doesnt surprise me in the slightest that the US version works the central locking from both doors. This is the UK where corners are cut as far as possible and we Brits accept it.

Des, I will try the reprogramming option and let you know how I get on.

Thank you both.

US cars only operate all locks from the drivers side which is the left.
