Default Rear wiper

Hi, as I've mentioned in a previous post, the rear wiper isnt working on my P1 V70R, some peeps have mentioned the wiring may be broken, I've just watched Robert diy replacing that harness, that all seems all a bit awkward to do, do you have to take all of that interior trim off and remove the harness just to check the wire for the rear wiper ? or is there a more definitive way to suss out the problem ? as it may well be the motor
I am not the handiest of people regarding electrics 🤔

Unplug the harness and apply 12v to the motor, if it moves you know its the tailgate wiring.

In reality its not as simple as that, as corrosion on the spindle can stop the wiper moving even if both harness and motor are perfect.

The wiper will not move by hand, not that I've used great force, but it appears to be stuck some how ! if that gives any indication ?

Is that with the switch engaged, or with motor unpowered? If unpowered then it doesn't give any indication. If powered at the motor and you know the motor works then you know its seized in the spindle. To check this you'll need to at least get at the motor so that should be your first step.

My rear wiper works OK but I can't move it by hand either.
Two easy tests, turn the wiper on and check for 12v at the wiper, if there's no voltage it's the wiring, relay or fuse; put 12v direct on the motor if it doesn't work either the motor is broke or the spindle of the wiper is seized, if the spindle is seized you'll probably hear the motor move a bit to take up the play in the wiper linkages.
I've had two cars where the spindle became corroded and stuck (1 Renault 1 Volvo) it's a bit of a faff about but I stripped both down, cleaned the spindle with a bit of wet and dry, and reassembled with a generous dollop of grease; both worked for as long as I kept the vehicle.

This might help if you need to remove the wiper assembly.
There's no need to replace the harness if you do have a broken wire at the tailgate hinge, just bypass it with new cable
