Default Parking heater retrofit possible?

Hi guys

So as I am travelling on a road trip soon and will be hitting colder climates. I was doing some research on block heaters and coolant heaters just in case I need them. Then I came across a feature called parking heater that comes with Volvos. I quickly headed to the car checked climate and at the top to my surprise no additional options 😔. It seems mine does not have a parking heater. Although they are available to buy and installation by the looks of it will be plug and ( this is the momentous question) can it be played as in retrofitted activated ? Has anyone done this?

Regards
Slapz

Just use the climate setting in the app to warm the car 10mins or so before you set off.

Hi

It was more of a to warm the engine block up before starting the car in temps of below let’s say -20 and so on.

Good morning, 'Slapz', not much call for these in the UK! Can't speak for a specific model, modern cars in general with their sophisticated software and .HAV systems, but these heaters have long been widely available and used in Scandinavian countries - especially in the North - where such temperatures are commonplace.

The one on our friend's 144 simply fitted into a modified bottom hose and plugged into the mains overnight. It did a good job of preventing freezing, and ensuring quick starts and instant heat in the cabin. In principle, therefore, I see no reason why one may not be successfully retro-fitted to any water-cooled engine.

Perhaps a direct approach to Volvo might clarify?

Enjoy your trip!

Regards, John.

Ah, in which case the old trick of lighting a fire under the engine might work…. Or maybe not ;-)
