Yours is a petrol isn't it? Its a 4 cylinder I assume? I know the 4 cylinder diesel VEA engines are notorious for EGR problems and EGR cooler issues, as well as high oil consumption (particularly the early ones).

Yours being a petrol, it shouldn't have those issues?
Thanks Kev, me too.

It is, 2.0 16v turbo, 4CYL.

Yes, I've also seen many posts on the V40 Facebook page from diesel owners with oil consumption issues and EGR problems.
99% of the time the EGR is clogged and I think the oil issue is piston related??? Not 100% sure on that.
Somewhere in the engine there's space for oil to get past where it shouldn't and people end up having to top up 1/2 litre more often than they should.

Thankfully no issues like that on Blue. 5.7 litres in when I change the oil and filter and it reads right up to the penultimate line just before it goes into overfilled.

Default Another Picture & Some Detailing Products

I came out of a shop the other morning and as I was coming back to the car I couldn't help myself

Blue just looked SOOOOO good, I had to take a snap

I think I mentioned before that the local detailing shop had stopped selling products and decided to just concentrate on detailing cars. Sold all his stuff within 2 days or something..... gutted.

I needed a few bits and took a recommendation from my detailer that coated my wheels and bought this little haul

Garage Therapy - Wheel Shampoo, Iron Remover and a Wheel Wash Mitt.

There is also a bottle of Car Shampoo there, but that's not what I ordered. I actually ordered a bottle of their Snow Foam.

I ordered it all from Clean Your Car. I have used them before and never had an issue. I called their customer service line shortly after opening the box and the lad I spoke to said he would arrange for a bottle of snow foam to come out to me and he would look into whether or not it's worth raising a return label to send the shampoo back.

It came to 5:20PM and I hadn't received an e-mail, so fired off a reply to the sales team via my order confirmation e-mail to see what was happening.

Hopefully they do what they say they'll do and send me what I ordered.

I also moved my front mud flaps upwards and outwards about an inch, but didn't bother with any pictures as the difference isn't really noticeable. Mainly done to hopefully cut down on surface spray up the side of the car and also to stop the mud flaps scraping off the drive and the odd speed bump when I have 2 or more people in the car.

It will be the rear mud flaps where the main difference will show. They need pulling out a bit and also straightening up. I need the wheels off to do those though as I don't have an appropriate tool to get to the screws and the fronts can be done just by putting the wheels on full lock.

Default More Detailing Products

Further to my previous post, I called Clean Your Car again about the Snow Foam and actually managed to speak to the same guy as before.

He said it was sent out on the Wednesday when I called and he would look into it again with DPD. He also said due to the issue/mess up, I could just keep the Car Shampoo, which I thought was nice of them.

Shortly after the call I received an e-mail with DPD tracking information in and it arrived on Friday

My Soft99 order also arrived

First up, some new, soft, detailing brushes for the wheels and car exterior

And also

From left to right; a Quick Detailer, Wash Mist for the interior and Luxury Gloss - a spray type wax.

Looking forward to the next wash session where I can use a bit of everything

Everything at once

Should keep me going for a while.

Think I need a new bucket though. I have one normal one and the other one is a mop type bucket so not really deap enough to plunge the wheel brush in all the way.

Default Meet Preparation & Clean Pictures

There's a Volvo meet arranged for tomorrow (Sunday 18th August)

First one I will have attended since the #Volvo600 record attempt at Elvington.

So that meant only one thing to do today....... Wash the car!!

I mentioned it to my friend who also has a V40, so he came round for a cleaning session as well.

This is the only picture I took of the clean unfortunately.

We both just cracked on with it and were chatting all the way through.

We used all my new products and I must say, the Garage Therapy stuff is really good. Glad I took my detailer friends advice on that.
The snow foam is nice and thick, clings really well. The wheel shampoo cut right through all the brake dust and grime. The car shampoo, which was sent in error, was also very impressive. Good cleaning capabilities and very sudsy, which is something I've been looking for, for quite some time.

We started at about 2PM and finished about 6PM I think it was. My friend had to get home, so I drove off to my new spot for some clean and shiny car pics. Enjoy.

I need to see if there's anything I can do about the exhaust back box.... It's in such a bad state and really lets the car down when it's in view.

The tips aren't too bad and come up fairly decent when clean though

Still have the rear mud flaps to straighten up and bring out of the arch a little bit.

Arty-farty shot

They were all taken in the "overflow car park". I would like to get some right outside the stately home, but there's always a few other cars there.

On the way out of that car park, it's into a wooded area and I thought, "I wonder if I can get some decent pics just here", so took a few more

And that's that.

I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures at tomorrows meet. There should be quite a few there by all accounts.

Default Maxton Front Splitter Comparison

Just a quick post before the one about todays meet.

As per the title, it's about the Maxton Design Front Splitter for the V40.

A V40 arrived at the meet and it donned the Maxton kit. Front splitter and side skirts. Not sure about the rear lips though, didn't have an indepth look at it.

Anyway I took the below pictures of it and mine just to try and compare the 2

Maxton Splitter

My splitter

The only difference I can see is the centre section might be slighly deeper on the Maxton compared to mine.

Other than that, they look identical. Glad I paid half the price.

Default NY500 @ Pickering Meet - Hosted by White Rose Volvo

Today I attended the above meet and it was really good.

A decent amount of Volvo cars along with loads of bikes and also a group of Porsche and a Mini meet.

The pictures I took

The venue's own bright yellow truck.

Got there just after 10am, said hello to a few people and then went inside for a breakfast bun. Very tasty.
Whilst sat, noticed there were a few more cars inside on display.

Information sheet

An old GTI

Then this little beauty

Then had a wander outside

Mini meet

All the Porsche, right at the back

A look back at the venue

My friend really likes Mini's, so we had a closer look at some of them.

Venue shot whilst walking back to the main car park area

Sierra Cosworth

And onto the Volvo's

Loved this, it would be something I would've done had it been my car

Love this "C50"

And that's the lot. I was parked on my own and you don't generally take pictures of your own car.

A few of them then went for a drive over to Scarborough, but I had to get home.

All in all a good morning. Look forward to the next one.

Default Oil for the next service

I went to the local Volvo dealership this morning to pick up some oil.

I called this one (a Stoneacre taken over one) and also Ray Chapman Volvo @ York and the former said £65 for 6 litres, whilst R.C. stated just over double that???!!!!

Not sure why such a discrepancy between the 2 dealerships, but I popped to the one closest to me to pick it up

6 litres!!! 6 for the T2 engine (well, 5.9 to be exact). Still not used to that amount, even though I've already changed it once. My old V50 took just under 4 litres.

Surprisingly though, the oil from Volvo is cheaper than elsewhere, which is very strange.

The equivalent Castrol branded oil in 4 litre tubs comes close to £90 off Amazon. There are probably other brands I could use, but I couldn't be bothered to search for the appropritely specced oil that is needed for my engine.

Which for reference is VCC RBS0-2AE 0w20

I'll have a look around at some point, see what other decent brands are available as an alternative.

Couple of pictures of the receipts I got. The parts guy messed up and I got one for the 4 litre tub and 1 for the two 1 litre tubs. I like to have these as I note down what date and at what mileage I've changed the oil and filter. Not like I'll be getting rid of the car, EVER, but good to have a record.

Same part numbers from when I checked at Ray Chapman last year. The only change is like 20p on one of the bottles, so really unsure how R.C. got the price they did.......

I've got a shed load of sump plug washers, so didn't get any of those whilst I was there. I've also got a MANN oil filter saved on Amazon which I'll purchase at the end of the month. It's on next day delivery so I will be able to do the oil and filter as soon as it arrives.
I do have 2 more sump plugs as well, but changed it last year so it won't need changing for a little while yet.

I'm away on holiday from Saturday so the next update will be the oil and filter change shortly after my return.

Hi Simmy,

I did and highlighted it. He's done really well with that car. He's such a decent lad too, known him since I had my V50.
Was looking forward to seeing it in the flesh and wasn't disappointed.

Shame you couldn't be there, would've been nice to meet you. Hopefully the next one.
