Saying its to give the motoring manufacturers certainty, surely sticking at 2035 would have given certainty.
I can't see the UK being anywhere close to having an effective charging network country wide by 2030, the cars are not yet efficient enough for the current energy costs nor do I think the majority of people are willing to make that switch at current EV prices.
I'm not sure if it's in their manifesto or not but they definitely said they would reinstate it if they won the next election.
Personally I think the ZEV mandate is the first thing that needs to be scrapped. Manufacturers are already talking about reducing supply of ICE cars to avoid falling foul of it which won't be good for the economy and not good for consumers either.
Charging infrastructure needs to massively improve but for as long as it takes around 30 minutes to gain a (relatively) paltry amount of range then an EV will never be an option for me.

They're saying it but in reality will be pushed by whatever the manufacturers can offer and that tends to align with the rest of Europe.

Like all the manifestos, take them at best as a guide. I mean - I've never seen a manifesto implemented in full (or even in the larger part in some cases) - can't see this being any different regardless of the size of majority.

The sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles.

You'll still be able to buy a used car with an actual engine for a long time yet, regardless of what the "ban date" ends up being.

Sunak pushed it back to 2035... Realistically, that made little difference, but at least it was a move in the right direction. Starmer bringing it back to 2030 just shows how clueless he really is.

This country is nowhere near ready for electric. I'd say its 20 years off and even that's a push. For Starmer to reverse the date to 2030 just shows he's not in touch with what's really happening;

-Manufacturer's stopping or scaling back EV production.
-Some manufacturer's are going back to creating hybrids and next gen ICE vehicles.
-Tesla's sat idle in Germany, Australia and America gathering dust, which can now be seen from orbit because there's so many of them.

If we were in a common sense world I'd agree, but the powers that be have decided plebs will no longer have personal transport - the forcing of EVs on us is stage one of that. JLR understands that billions spent now on improving their XJs and XFs etc is just burned cash - only the rich and political elites will be allowed to have cars in 20 years time - and those cars will be electric. So the future will be hugely expensive bespoke vehicles for the few. Those following the mass-production model will go to the wall because they won't have a client base - well, not one that's allowed to own a car anyway.

I thought I would write a short report which might be of interest to those who are thinking about buying one. I have come from an XC90 T8, so quite a change for me.

Stuff I don't like which will never change:

- Because the Batteries are in the floor, the floor is a bit high, this affects comfort a bit in the front and more so in the back. My daughter complains that she can't get her feet under the front seat when sat in the back and her knees are higher than her hips.
- Keyless only works on the drivers door, so when unplugging the car, you have to walk around to unlock, to walk back to unplug to walk back again to get in.
- Concentration sensor and speed sign sensor both should be a great idea (and I genuinely mean that - I am more than happy to have a sensor keeping an eye on me being distracted and being informed of speed limits) but both are pointless. The concentration sensor can easily ignore me looking away or being distracted at 70mph, but when I am carefully checking at a junction and looking all around it bongs! The speed sensor - just like the XC90 - is just wrong so you ignore it. Either the database is wrong or the camera is crap, but false positives just make you ignore it. I now turn off both systems as soon as I start my journey (and they have to be done every time....). Quite interesting on the tiredness sensor though. If I genuinely yawn then it bongs, if I try and fake a yawn then it doesn't trigger, which is quite clever really.

So overall a positive experience. Knowing what I know now I would definitely still buy the car. As a commuting car it is absolutely perfect and just so easy to use. If we were still doing lots of long family holidays in the car (we use the motorhome these days) then it would probably be too small, too cramped in the back and restricted on range, but that is not the typical usage now.
Glad overall you are happy with your car. Some of the issues with sensors distracting you and giving irritating alarms is a big reason why I would never have a car with that kind of stuff on. Having recently had the displeasure of a modern Ford Ranger. The lack of real controls is a big issue. The touch screen for making adjustments and controls is not fit for use on the move. Lane control trying to push you off line on most roads. You could not drive with a trailer on unless the electrics are connected and you tell it what you are towing.

Manual switching would be a lot better and at least once you switch off the driver "aids" you find irritate you they stay off

It's more or less standard on everything now, sadly!

cheers
