Default Tug boat noise fixed

Hi all,

Just a quick update to say I finally got round to changing the hydraulic lifters which was creating the dreaded 'tug boat' noise from the engine. Lifters and arm replaced and now sounds super smooth again. A couple of pics attached of the condition of the cams. Pretty good after 127K miles.

Took about 8 hours just taking it steady.

Looks like 4 of the 20 were softer than the others. When I say softer I mean I could compress them slightly just with squeezing them with my fingers.

Thanks to the forum member for the deal on the lifters etc.

One further question though, does anyone want the set of rocker arms I've taken off. If anyone does please PM me to arrange a deal. The arms and rollers are all in great shape and I can send some pics if needed.

Well done mate job well done. Did you reuse fuel pipes or replace. Apart from the deal you got on the lifters how much did it all set you back. Mine is making the same noise when warm. However sometimes its quiet after a spirited drive when it's on idle, though not very often

In addition to the rocker arms and lifters I also replaced:

Vacuum pump seals £20
Injector pump 'O' ring (8631580) £12
Injector copper washers £1.05 each
Timing belt £25
Cam cover gasket £9.72

I also bought the gear tool for holding the crank pulley and the cam gears £18.95.

Included in the purchase from forum member was:

Replacement rocker arms and lifters
Crank pulley seal

I didn't replace any fuel pipes. Just had a look at everything to make sure nothing was damaged or showing signs of age.
