Default v40 wiper squeak

just had a good search on this subject but didnt find anything about my problem yet was of the understanding this was a common fault ,the fault being i am getting a squeak from passenger wiper after replacing wiper blade with a bosch type from hallfords no real difference gave windscreen a good clean and put some rain off or something like that on i still have the squeak after some investigation i have come to the conclusion the problem lies with the assembly between the motor and the wiper arm i have checked with volvo main dealers and i have been informed that i have to buy the complete assembly costing 80 pounds yet all i need is the plastic bit that has 3 screws securing assembly to body that the spinned part of arm threads through before attaching to main wiper arm do you think its worthwhile getting complete assembly from scrappy for half price or even a way to repair it

Default wiper arm

ive seen this mentioned before on the forum, people have tried various makes of wiper blades, but to what i read, mis aligned wiper arms are a contributing factor.

i am sure it has nothing to do with wiper blade i am fairly sure it is the plastic bit i have mentioned as i have a lot more play with the splinned stalk going through on passenger side than drivers side and some wear on inner part of plastic yet it seems this is not a common fault so i could prob get away with part from scrappy as local scrappy has a v40 atm

I had a similar issue when I purchased my '97 V40 - I replaced the wiper linkage with one from a much younger S40 from the local scrap yard. I think you'll just have to replace the whole linkage, but it's easy to do.

Cheers

Spary oil and or grease the bearings on the linkages. Mines nice and quiet, but i took off the plastic panel, also the panel was catching the lower part of the arm as someone had not reinstalled the cover correctly after putting new windscreen in.

Default Wiper blades.

Have had same problem for almost two years, spent a small fortune on new arms and blades with success.
My problem was wear between spindle (sticking out of body) and the plastic surround. Purchased a second hand wiper linkage and spindles for £35 last week and fitted last weekend. Problem gone.
