Default Tyres for my AWD R,

Right guys and gals, I am currently selling my Tritons and i do love them but i want to go back to 17" Comets, as the ride is a little bit bangy with the pot holes around my area,
So not only am i buying Comets i am also considering new rubber for these alloys,
Now i have a few tyres in mind, so thought i would start a Poll up as to what and why, as to your recommendations,

regards Gary,

Hi,

Have just started using a set of Toyo T1-R's and have found them to be:
  • Quiet on the move
  • Good for grip in the dry
  • Good for grip when wet - more so than my previous Milleniums.
  • Gives good road holding at speed
  • Not harsh but comfortable for the ride.

Will soon have an idea of the possible life of the tyres, although I am using a different car ATM I will be back in the 940 which has these fitted..
The set has 25000 mile to beat as the life of the Milleniums...

Hello Gary,

I drive between 15 and 20k per year so wanted good tread life as well as excellent grip in wet (we are in Blighty after all) and dry. Have read excellent reviews of the Toyo T1Rs and Goodyear GSD3s, but always with comments about low tread life.

TyreTest.com, TireRack.com (independent tests and consumer feedback) and V70R.com pointed me in the direction of Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (PS2). However, the closest size available is 225/45/17, when I use 215/45/17. In the same family of tyres (same tread pattern, but different compound for longer life) is the Exalto 2 (PE2)/ I went for those and am very pleased. Grip is the best I've ever had, tread life is pretty good (2mm in 8000miles+) and coupled with the AWD are a great combo.

They were about £120 each fitted (with some VOC discount), so more than T1Rs but less than 888s, but he value will be measured in £/mile which I expect to be pretty good compared.

Hope this helps. You'd be welcome to inspect them once I start to get my life back after baby settles into a routine.

Cheers

Oli

888's are road legal track day tyre's aren't they? I would be tempted by the Yoko's personally. Had some great results from them previously [although not on a Volvo]

Thanks guys, I have been reading about the 888R's and in a downpour because of the tread pattern are dangerous, so think i wil l give them a miss, I love the pattern of the Parada's but it isn't about the looks of the tyre,
Mileage isn't a problem for me as i only do 5k-6k a year,
I can get the T1-R's fitted for £90 a corner in a 215 45 17, the Parada's are dearer at £113,

Gary.

Hi Ian I have the SP9000 on the car now in 225/35/18 form, cracking tyres, they really do grip, maybe it is the devil you know as to speak. going to fit Comets on my car in the next week or two, so have a few days to make my mind up, maybe i should phone up some tyre shops and ask their opinion.

Gary

MyTyres sell those currently for £77 and with, say, £10 for fit and balance £87.
So I would either get them from MyTyres or negotiate your supplier down..
Especially if you are getting a set of 4...
