My new dampened coupling arrived - its quite a beast!

Ive been to the dealer this morning and picked up some AOC fluid and filter that I ordered in the week - TIP: order the fluid and filter from the dealer, its much cheaper than 3rd part online re-sellers (€50 all-in from the dealer, Vs €42 just for the filter online).

Filter part number: 31325173
AOC oil part number: 31367940

I had a good chat with one of the techs this morning, and we managed to find that my car is within the VIN range for the upgraded DEM software that is designed to specifically combat this problem. With the car being servcied at Volvo for the first 4 years im pretty ****ed this is not on the car already under the 2.0 service scheme, but there you go. Oh the Sw is not free either, its €70!

The car is going in on the 10th March to have the new damper fitted, the Haldex serviced and the new software installed. In combination im hoping (and quietly confident) that should solve the issue.

Ill of course update in March, and I would say to people reading this in the future - ask about the software as a first port of call, its not included as std. as part of the 2.0 service plan, as the DEM module is not included......

The updated software part number is: 30677019 and costs €45.

Total labour cost is €293 I was going to attempt myself until I saw in the VIDA instructions how many 'special' tools you need (pullers, counter holds, drifts etc). Id likely get the car mostly in pieces and find one bolt I couldnt undo. Id also rather this job be done by the dealer than my local (non-specialist) garage, as its quite a specific job with plenty of potential for **** up because of unfamiliarity with the process.

Hi Bob,

Not yet.

Car is booked in for next Thursday. It was originally going in today, but this weeks schedule got too hectic and I had to re-arrange.

Just got the car back.

Its fixed!

The horrible grating noise at 2k rpm is completely gone. The car also shifts much smoother and there is less general drivetrain noise.

Very, very happy and also very relieved.

My gut feeling is that the horribe noise was probably cured by the software update, and the general drivetrain noise and shifting smoothness has been helped by the new damped prop and the haldex service.

The -ve point of having it done at a garage/dealer is that I couldnt see the condition of the old fluid / filter, so as to make an assessment.... only a minor disadvantage though.

Total cost for the work at the dealer (damper change, haldex service, new software and the associated parts) was €425

I seem to remember paying €200 for the damper.

So €625 all in.

I would definitely recommend having just the software update done in the first instance, as that would potentially be a €100 solution.

I am happy to have the new damper on the car, as im hoping (and it looks to have) smoothed out some roughness in the drive train too.

Hope the info in the thread will help out some others in the future.

Was looking forward to seeing the update and great news that it's cured the problems. I may do similar in the near future if the coupling is compatible with MY07 90's.
