Default H7 bulb socket

Hello from s40 2002:
Front head light H7 bulbs socket with its 2 incorperated wires is both slightly melted and broken beyond use. Have obtained a new 2 wire socket. To attach it I will need to cut the present wires back slightly and then attach the new socket - with the use of 2 wiring connecters which will be taped over with insulation tape thereafter.
Is there anyone who can tell me if this is safe enough? Andrew

If you have a heat gun and enough access, I’ve heard good things about these:

solder is best there to keep the volt drop as low as possible with the highish current . were you using the volvo low life H7 bulbs? Never seen that problem before with those headlamps ..
