Default 'Windscreen Sensors Blocked'

Driving in thick fog this morning the message 'Windscreen Sensors Blocked' popped up. Which sensors might these be and what might have blocked them?

It could be for auto/variable speed wiping I suppose.

Now here's a funny thing. Searching around, I find this in the MY 2012 V70 handbook;

Quote:
City Safety™ is a function for helping the driver to avoid a collision when driving in queues, amongst other things, when changes in the traffic ahead, combined with a lapse in attention, could lead to an incident. If the message Windscreen Sensors blocked is shown on the instrument panel display, it indicates that the laser sensor is blocked and cannot detect vehicles in front of the car. This means that City Safety™ is not operational.
So far as I am aware, my car does not have City Safety™. How can I find out, short of driving at a brick wall?

I have a recollection that City Safety was introduced as standard on 2012 cars. I think yours is a 2011?

Do you have "Collision Warning with Autobrake"?

My manual (on P.185) says that thick fog can cause this issue, as well as a dirty windscreen - I assume the sensors are mounted inside the car and look through the windscreen?

that's it, the cameras are mounted on the windscreen. I get this occasionally, usually just a bit of dirt or fog.

Default Lane Departure Warning

I am resurrecting this thread as the issue has never been adequately explained and something else has started which I have a gut feeling may be related. The Lane Departure Warning (LDW) has recently been 'unavailable' more often than I would expect and sometimes simply 'OFF' despite the option to activate on start-up being selected. I have even now enabled the 'enhanced sensitivity' option! Has anyone else had any issues with LDW?
