Default Lost Key disaster

I've managed to lose one of my keys and the remote key fob.

A complete search of the car and the street has not turned it up yet. I hope I've lost it in the house but assuming I haven't then does anyone have any idea what it's going to cost me?

Ideally I'd want to do the following (assuming it is possible): un-register the missing key and fob from the car and then get a new key and fob. How much will this set me back? Do I have to go to Volvo or are there cheaper ways to do it?

Sorry to hear of your problem, hope you find the key. If you don't I have no idea what a Volvo dealer would charge, but within the last month Honest John (Telegraph Motoring) dealt with a similar issue and recommended a firm who can provide replacement keys. Guess you would have to send the remaining key away but it could be worth a search of the HJ website. There may be similar companies in your area.

From recent experience, you will almost certainly need a Volvo main dealer or a good Independant dealer who has the relevant "computer".

I lost a key (to a Land Rover Discovery).

Getting the metal section of the key cut is easy, so long as you have a "blank".

However, with the "blipper", you'll need to set the serial number of the electronic signal onto the car's computer with VIDA or similar.

My independant dealer did this for me, and charged me £30 for the reprogramming of the car. The key he supplied was "original", but he gave me a larger discount than the main dealer.

You're probably still looking at a £100+bill I'm afraid, so I hope you do find your key!

There are independant (non franchise) guys out there, but best make sure they can reprogramme your car first. Some info:

Still waiting for my lost key to turn up!! I know its in the house somewhere.

After a few weeks I replaced Keyless drive key at local volvo dealer the breakdown was:
Remote control £90
KVM reload £45.50
Keyless vehicle key £26 (don't know what this is)
Labour £40

Total about £200

Remember to ask to have old key deleted if you want this.

Bloody hell Moog23! That's pricey! I'm going to get a quote from some indy guys (which I will post here for comparison) and KEEP LOOKING!

You can imagine the trouble I'm in for losing them in the first place - my wife never loses things like that and as it's her car and she does 90% of the driving she's got good reason to be p***ed off!

Just realised I'm in the wrong forum (have MK2 V70) if an admin want's to move it. Still relevant as a general issue though!

For Info:

I contacted Lancaster Volvo in Reading and they quoted:
1 replacement key
1 replacement remote fob
Re-programming costs
£312.57 inc VAT and labour.

I contacted 2 online places but they haven't got back to me yet.
