this is the confusing thing I'm getting more and more convinced there's actually nothing wrong with it at all! lol
if it wasnt for someone saying i should be getting literally 3 or 4 more mpg's I wouldnt even be looking into it.. one of those times when I'd have been genuinely better off just not reading someone else's opinion lol but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and now I've got it in my head the car could be marginally better than it is. sometimes you just have to learn to let things go anyway Im looking for a project car now.. (anglia / hillman / swb landrover series 2 / even been kicking about the idea of an p1800..) so mpg on that certainly wont be the top priority haha and I can just leave the daily driver alone because I've got something else to work on Last edited by stuart bowes; Apr 16th, 2021 at 23:31. |

I think so? it doesnt feel like it's over revving.. well obviously it depends on throttle position doesnt it, it can redline or it can shift at about 2k.. but no I would say it feels about right judging by other auto's I've had
normally I'd go with a manual but this was bought so the other half can drive sometimes and she's only got a girl-o-matic license |

A thought suddenly occurs
i may be wrong but i'm working on the assumption that fuel trim per cylinder should be 0. the plus figures are therefore the injectors working slightly harder to overfuel for a lean condition? therefore (if correct) a slight excess of air. which may explain the slight difference in mpg? now my Airbox at the back doesnt quite connect together properly, the two outer hinge/connections are in tight but the middle one isnt perfect and I can see a little bit of the outer edge of my air filter. only fractionally. but that would be a imperfect seal which I'm gonna try closing up with gaffa tape as a temporary measure BUT.. surely that would be 'metered' air (i.e. before the MAF) and any lean condition would be caused by unmetered air (after the MAF) any thoughts on that? I will look for splits in the 'accordian' type tubing as well but I think it's in pretty good condition |

gap plugged (actually a little 'wiggly worm' of bluetack was a better plug)
also upped tyre pressures from 32 to 35, which may help a little there is no recommended pressures label in my car and opinions vary wildy online |

Stuart, it may be a good idea to check your PCV system. I bought my 05my V70 2.4i 170ps last February FSH (Volvo & Volvo Indi) and supposedly Serviced just before I purchased it. I have just started to give her a Service as the 'Service Due' reminder came up on the dash and I discovered that the air filter and filter box were full of debris that had obviously been there for much more than a year! My PCV breather pipework is also blocked solid with black gunk & the plastic hoses are breaking up. My guess is my oil trap will also be solid. I have noticed over the past 6 months or so my MPG figures have become dire!

Thanks for the reply I've been keeping an eye on the usual symptoms of that, there's never any smoke from the dipstick and I checked the oil filler hole today with a bit of clingfilm and there was definite suction there.. also at my low mileage it shouldn't really be an issue to be fair
There's so many variables! Like I said earlier post it might even just be that there is a lot of speed bumps in my area (start / stop) |
