Hi Everybody

Long time Lurker in this forum, but this is my first post

i think i've taken the tough decision to sell my 1997 v90, it's a great car and a nice drive, but when something goes wrong its taking to long to repair waiting or sourcing the parts

internally it's excellent and original, externally it's got the age related marks for a 25+ year old car.

I've just spent over 700 quid getting it though its MOT and want to list it online but no idea where to start with the price!

Would love peoples thoughts

Cheers

John

Hi John,

Sorry to hear of your woes with the V90, and rather a difficult question to answer.

I fully understand your position, I dumped my 56 3.0tdi Audi Allroad 2 years ago before entering the Volvo world. Now a happy 94 940 owner.

Depends on what you really need from your motor, I’ve had a nearly new car not start but my 940 hasn’t let me down, yet😀😀

If your V90 issues are rust related then it’s a difficult call but if mechanical, then you’ve paid to fix that problem, so perhaps keep it and enjoy.

No right or wrong, but whatever you decide, Bon chance👍

Cheers

The price you will get will depend on mileage and how good/bad the exterior is. Around £2k seems to be the current sensible asking price for one in half decent condition. Don’t be influenced by the dreamers listing cars on eBay north of £5k. They never sell for those prices.

The usual online marketplaces are generally regarded as quite bad places to try to sell a car. You tend to get messed about. Folk will tell you that the owners’ forum is a bad place to try to sell because the people on here already own cars, but they do change hands on here and I have both bought and sold through here.

If you want a wider audience, Car and Classic is supposed to be quite good but I’ve no personal experience other than occasionally browsing their site.

A good alternative is to buy another vintage Volvo yourself. That way you will have one that works while you’re sourcing parts for the one off road.

Good luck whatever course of action you choose.

Having had positive experience with 'Car and Classic in the past, I would concur with 'Forrest'. It seems to me to appeal to more serious, better informed and realistic folk than the likes of certain other well known internet platforms.

Another, relatively hassle free, alternative might be to offer the car with a sensible reserve through a specialist auction house. The V90 is a lovely car, but some may be put off by it's rather prodigious thirst. It can offer potential purchasers champagne motoring for lemonade money, especially if they don't require the services of a garage that often to keep it on the road.

Regards, John.

Thanks everyone, All mechanical to get it back on the road and through the MOT, the new drivers door handle was a good bit of the money spent

think i'll stick some pictures in the sales section and see if anyone is interested to start with

as much as i would love to hang on to it, i dont have the time to take it out for a weekly drive or the space to store it!

Cheers

I've got an identical V90 to yours - even the same colour! I've also got an issue with the internal opening pull on the driver's door - is that the same problem you had? I'd be interested to know where you sourced the replacement part, if so.

Also I was wondering how much you sold yours for in the end?

You are probably better off starting a new thread with your problem, especially since the OP has not logged on since last November and probably has no further interest in this group if he has sold his Volvo.

The part that usually breaks on these is a small plastic piece that connects the outer door handle. Is your internal handle physically broken or just not operating the latch mechanism?

Thanks for the reply @Forrest

My issue is actually the lever that opens the door from the inside feels loose and sits about half-way open all the time. It is functioning at the moment but feels like it's on its way out. There is no problem opening the door from the outside.

Its return spring has probably broken. This is a common problem. The difficulty you may have is obtaining the right part.

See how to replace it here:
