Default Radio CR905, Lost pixels

My radio/cassette works fine but all the pixels on the display have gone. Does anyone know if a repair is possible, or should I bite the bullet and get a good period replacement?

If it’s just the backlight gone, then that is repairable, albeit fiddly.

If it’s the actual LCD that is likely to be a more daunting task both because I think it’s soldered to the PCB and because it’s likely to be hard to source an exact replacement. Probably better under those circumstances to source a working head unit from a breaker.

Thanks Forrest. As you say, very fiddly. I just don't have that inclination.
I found this at www.jtaudio.net It almost looks like new old stock. Different model to mine but as fitted to the 400 series I think and the main difference seems to be that I won't be able to attach a cd multichanger. Well that was never going to happen, I just want a radio that works, music I play direct to my hearing aids from my phone and at £70 this fits the build and keeps the right period look.

That should fit. You'll need to transfer the plastic surround from your original radio, but it should fit straight on. If there is an alternative surround on there you'll have to remove it first.

The only thing I never quite got my head around is which combinations of head units and amplifiers work. Some 940s have a hidden amplifier unit. I've never encountered a problem with this, but that might just be luck.

Not that it will help you with that question, but there is a nice long list of Volvo OEM radios with pictures here:

https://turbobricks.com/index.php?th...-guide.275521/

The main alternative is to get one which plays CDs instead of cassettes. I have used a CT-906 in my 940 in the past which was a direct plug-in replacement for the original CR-905. They are rare, tend to command silly prices and being hyper-critical the on/off switch and volume control aren't in the most ergonomic place for a 940.

Good luck.
