The 1.6 DriveE actually wasn't a bad car and not as underpowered as you'd expect. When I chopped it in it needed a wheel bearing and the clutch was juddering and on the way out and tbh I had always driven it sensibly so maybe a weak area?
The D5 auto is a WAY better engine for a V70 and mine has averaged a genuine measured 46mpg over 186k miles which is only fractionally less that the 1.6 DrivE did. The only real advantage of the 1.6L engine that I can see is the cheaper RFL and probably cheaper insurance. My advice D5 (or even D4) all the way.
We haven't heard from Aw255 for several days, so I have no idea what he's thinking.

Two observations however: -

1) Your car's clutch was dying at 140K miles, and the car that Aw255 was looking at just happens to have 140k on the clock.

2) The car that Aw255 was looking at is still for sale, so perhaps he's now looking elsewhere and has forgotten to tell us.

It would be nothing new…

Sign up to a forum, get advice & never return with an update as to the decision they’ve made. It happens frequently…

Each to their own, but I would have thought it would be common courtesy to at least let people know what decision they’ve made based on the advice they’ve had from the community. Unless there’s a genuine reason for not being active, then that’s fair enough.

Hopefully we hear back from the original poster, but at the same time, I wouldn’t hold my breath. Like I said, it wouldn’t be unusual!
