(Y2K => Some might say that the work done before the date changed to 01/01/2000 by countless administrators prevented the then unknown outcome of the design restriction of some older computers. A possible problem was identified - society reacted and did something about it) After the wide spread introduction of unleaded fuel many people had problems with valve seat wear. Many people have had problems with the introduction of ethanol in fuel even with the current 5% content. This is more likely to happen with machines / vehicles that do not get regular use. I've switched to alcylate fuel for all of my garden machines and no longer have any starting problems or any nasty leaks. What you might call "project fear" is for some "project reality": The increase in ethanol content to 10% has already had an effect on some older vehicles here in the Netherlands. Rubber fuel pipes should be checked - in particular for older vehicles that did not come with ethanol resistant rubber. The fuel systems of B18/20 engines are a perfect example of a design that needs to have particular attention to the possible future problems - these are not cross flow engines the carb sits above the exhaust manifold... ...Modern vehicles - like the one in your signature - that get used frequently are less likely to have problems with ethanol.
