There was a garage mentioned on here a few years back in the Accrington area that a few members used for core plug replacements which effectively needs a similar process.
They were incredibly reasonably priced for the labour which I think was on account of them doing the job many times and lower overheads. £350ish from memory versus £700-800 labour in a dealer.

I'll rack my brains and see if I can find the threads unless anyone else remembers them.

That's good to hear. Coincidentally, I called them on Friday and they're going to provide a quote on Monday. Fingers crossed it's a similar price.

Just wanted to update in case anyone comes across this in the future with the same issue.

The fault was definitely the flywheel which I had replaced (along with the clutch) at Read View in Huncoat, East Lancs. Very reasonably priced but still stung nonetheless.

Thank you Kev0607 and Cheshired5 for your help!

Can you give an idea of the price you paid, because it might be worth me taking the trip up there.

My DMF has been noticeable ever since I bought the car over 2 years ago. (15k miles ago). It doesn't sound as bad as yours though, but there is a definite chattering and a bang when starting the car on a cold day plus the clutch vibration when cold. Plus I've always struggled with the 3rd gear. (Clutch or synchromesh).

I've never forced the gears with the hopes of it lasting another year.

Thanks to everyone for the info.

It was just shy of £760 inc. Vat. Very reasonable labour costs when considering price of the DMF and clutch. They even fitted 2 engine mounts I'd already bought to fit myself (thought it'd be easier for them with the subframe already out)

That is a very good price, I would have have expected to pay a lot more. It's hardly worth contemplating doing it yourself for that.

However, I guess these guy's work on volvo's all the time, just looking at the number of them parked up on google street view says it all.
