After presenting its first front-wheel drive Volvo model - the 480 - in 1985, Volvo Car Corporation continued its comprehensive product and production-technology transition with its next project, launched on June 11, 1991: the Volvo 850 GLT. It has always amazed me how the 850 had quite a comprehensive facelift less than two years into production, yet it is rarely documented.

I've met the 850 designer Rolf Malmgren when I was visiting Sweden. He said the facelift was initially designed for the T-5R but management loved it so much they decided to put it on all models.
