Default Oil sump removal tips

Hi! Just bought a 2003 D5, and found out that the oil drain plug threads were stripped by the previous owner. Does anyone have some tips for replacing the sump?

fairly easy to helicoil with the sump in situ if you use plenty of grease on the tap when cleaning the thread out to catch the small amount of swarf then you could flush out with the old oil before filling with new oil kits are available on line or a good engineers supply

Best way is to get an engineer to put a helicoil in, no sump removal needed . You need a special volvo adhesive sealer to refit the sump , not easy when oil drips down for a day or so after removal.

I mean, i'd like to remove the sump anyway while i'm there to see the condition of the bearings and to replace O-rings around there, and I found a sump for a very good price. Is the adhesive sealer really that annoying to put in? I imagine I'd have to clean the old sealer off using brake cleaner, do i need a volvo special roller to reapply it?

as the sump is a zero clearance fit you do need the correct sealant as clan says the oil can still drip down after 24hrs making the job a long one any contamination of the sealant could render it useless.. on no account use rtv as this could wreck your engine i would go for the helicoil unless you have any other issues ie low oil pressure warnings ect..
