Playing video files
According to the handbook, this is possible. Has anyone tried it?

are you talking about playing films on the cd/ dvd player in the car? If so I have played DVD's in my XC70 .It has the sat nav 7" screen and is pretty good and clear.

Sorry, I should've explained it more. The handbook says you can play video files (eg .mp4) from a USB stick.

I've done it using a USB stick (Walter!?!). It was relatively easy to setup following the instructions. I think the video I had happened to be in mp4 format and the system found it straight away when I put the USB stick in.
I thought that there would be a way to play videos from my phone via Bluetooth but I guess that's not possible. I haven't tried plugging my phone into the USB port to see if I can play videos from it that way. I've not tried to do it again as I can't really find a use for it. Having the sensus screen in portrait doesn't lend itself to watching films which are in landscape. Could use it to pass the time if stuck in traffic or waiting around for something I suppose.

Thanks for that.
Bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth to allow video streaming so it's not possible. You'd be able to play videos from your phone via USB if the car sees it as a Mass Storage Device but in all likelihood it'll make a Media Device connection which may or may not support video. I have TV and video playback in the Merc. I never watch TV but I do sometimes play music videos where it doesn't matter that the image disappears whilst the car is moving. |
