V60 with flat battery and brake module, but still not workin
Hello
Long time lurker, gathering information for a new car for mother. Long story short, we have recently bought a new car which on day of collection had some issues, various warning lights were on. We didn’t collect it. A week on and the car won’t start. It’s had a new battery and brake module, which hasn’t fixed it. Anyone seen similar in this. It’s a petrol mhev 2.0 v60 b3p with 10k miles 21 plate. We have been given option to allow garage to resolve or get a refund. They have been very transparent, but slightly slow I guess, assuming other customer cars taken precedence. My concern is that the issues are bigger than it appears and given we’ve not taken it, what other issues could occur. Any suggestions? Cheers |

You don't say from whom you have purchased it. If it's a Volvo dealership and the car is being offered with a Volvo Selekt warranty, then if it were me, I would at least consider allowing them to attempt to repair it, assuming that I felt it was a good deal to start with and a car I really wanted.
Anyone else, or without a full Selekt warranty, and I'd take the money and walk away.

I didn’t want to name. It’s a Volvo dealer and I think it has the 12 month warranty

And I think that's wise.
The important fact being that it's a Selekt vehicle from within the dealership network. There's a reasonable degree of protection in that, at least historically. Especially if it were to turn out to be a Friday special, I'd think Volvo UK would be a lot more inclined to look favourably on assistance and goodwill than if it had come via auction and trader network. You also get to return the vehicle within 30 days for any reason.

This is the latest. I find it hard to see how a software update is causing this..
The car appears to have a communications error in the software relating to the SRS module (airbag) interacting with the brake control module. Under the guidance of the technical exchange we have been testing the car during the day and attempting to re-calibrate these systems to clear the faults. |

There’s plenty more out there that’ll be better

Update. Went to get money transferred and walk away today. All done, then get an email confirming that the car is fixed! Was in while I was selling the sales man.
So a new srs module had fixed it. My mother wants to give them ample opportunity to fix and even take the car on. She’s worried that if after a few months she has similar or related/linked issues , that would be a real issue. Thoughts? I’m still in the fence and would prefer to get money back. They also can’t provide any plasterwork confirming the with that’s been done which is a shame. |

It reads like the garage knew the issue, waited for a buyer, and pushed the fix through on Selekt for which you won't get any paperwork.
My experience of Selekt is between that and the balance of manufacturer warranty you're pretty much covered to begin with. I've had very few issues with the two Volvo cars I've had, a blown intercooler, boost control valve, split intercooler return pipe nothing too major for around 200,000 miles of motoring. I've thought about swapping my five cylinder diesel for a newer four cylinder a few times, each time I come on here I read about EGR issues, oil leaks, four figure garage bills. That usually stops me and puts replacing my S60 on hold for another few months. I've been doing that since 2017 and still have not pulled the trigger to change.
