Other S60 Problem: - S60 Coolant in Passenger Footwell

Hi All

I have a volvo s60 2.0 T auto with 205K miles on the clock...Went to drive the car yesterday and coolant warning light was on and noticed the passenger footwell was soaked in red coolant....Is this more than likely the heater matrix gone??

If so how easy / hard is it to do? Is it main dealer dash out job or is it something a diy mechanic could tackle?

Yes it will be the heater matrix, plenty of writeups on here explaining how to do it and its certainly a DIY job - Mike

Got a bit of a fright when i saw the 3 day removal guide, cutting the pollen filter box seems a much better solution....hopefully its just a seal and not the actual matrix

Heres my issue

Seems to be leaking on both connections....Any chance its just o rings?

Both seals had failed....cracked....awkward but cheap fix delighted!!!

We're starting to see quite a few o-ring failures now, had mine done about 18 month back, luckily I detected it when it was just a small drip.

Certainly worth a check when buying secondhand..

If one just wants to inspect the connections to the heater matrix, is it necessary to remove the glove box?

Would it be possible to cut an inspection port into the back or side of the glove box to check this. One could cut a round hole and close it with one of those rubber or plastic plugs that come in various diameters. For regular inspection just pull the stuff out of the box, pull the plug and use a small light.

Of course, nowadays there are inexpensive borescopes available.

I *think* you can gain access to 'feel' the matrix plumbing for leaks by removing the passenger footwell centre console plastic trim, which is a two minute job. If there is a small leak, you 'll be able to feel the residue on the pipes/ clips easily enough.

[Obviously don't touch the pipes immediately after running as they'll be red-hot] ;-)
