Despite the slumber, no sleeping beauty.
You do find some interesting motor cars for sale BicycleBoy.

With reference to your piece above about the cost of 240s 20 years ago: this motor car would have been about 15 years old when it was (presumably) vandalised and approaching its nadir in value, it seems to have covered about 120,000 miles by then so it was well used - so maybe just hundreds of pounds. I wonder if the insurance company paid out rather than fix the window and the owner just pushed it into the woodshed and kept the money? This is just speculation on my part.

This auction will be an acid test of the bottom of the market. Is it worth £1,500 (or more)? That is the question. To me the answer would be no, even if there is no rust underneath the recommissioning cost (with a new rear window and repainting the boot) would be well over a grand, and at the end of it there is a 35 year old, 8 owner, 120,000 mile non-historic motor car with no provenance and still only worth £2,000. It would be madness to pay that much for an £800 motor car.

One for the banger racing oval?

Alan

I wonder what Bromsgrove man does now - the motor car seems to have been on sale all this year and now only has a short MoT, I suspect some of the advisories will need addressing to pass another test and the winter is almost here. Perhaps SORN the motor car, buy a good cover, get it MoT tested in March and try again in the spring?

It’s back, must be auto relist!
The Bromsgrove motor car (the one with the twin Weber conversion and holes in the floor) has disappeared from sale! Maybe it is sold, or perhaps Bromsgrove man gave up (as above: perhaps SORN the motor car, buy a good cover, get it MoT tested in March and try again in the spring?)?

:-)

It reminds me a bit of the Barge when I first bought it: low mileage and substantially okay, but with a gap in provenance and in need of a fair bit of recommissioning. The Barge was probably a bit better in that its early life was well documented and the gap in history was much shorter, it was a higher specification motor car (2.3 GLE) and it had new tyres with refurbished wheels. The Barge still cost me a little over £400 in parts to get well sorted, the red car might well be a bit more. The Barge's biggest advantage was that it was far closer to becoming an historic vehicle (6 years less tax, 6 less MoTs).

:-)
Activity has slowed to a trickle on the red motor car: just one new bid and it is at £3,050 with 11 different bidders. If it is a fair auction I think it should not go any higher. If it does sell at 3 grand(ish) the seller might feel a bit of a prune for asking £6,500 for months :-)

On the other hand, there's so much doom and gloom being spread around these days, we shouldn't be too hard on cheery optimists!

A nice red saloon should cheer everyone up:
Gateshead, so well oop north.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165762312821
Low miles, years ticket, £2.2k.
Probably won't be on sale for long at that price.

Ah, if you were as quick to check the classifieds as this forum, you'd have spotted this somewhat tired but tasty '79 saloon: Canvey, so darkest Essex.

Does the vendor read this forum? Price just bumped to £2.5k on Gumtree:

...hopefully just in anticipation of the inevitable haggling.
