It's a rust-free example too - the rust comes free!

It's apparently from Scotland and appears to have multiple "two-tone" areas of "cinnamon" and white instyead of plain white.

If that's an indication of work needed, i'd suggest that while it's "modestly" priced, it will need a lot of work to get right.

I wonder whether returning to more realistic pricing will be a sign of the times Dave. There is a bit of a global economic downturn coming and a manifestation of that will be many people in the developed world will become quite a bit poorer (this isn't a political statement, it will happen in many places). A 30 year old motor car in need of a lot of work and that will cost a lot to run will probably be seen by most as less important than paying the mortgage or rent, the Sky subscription or cider and fags.

For the whole time I've been involved with this forum (about 3 years I suppose) we have been hearing from people that think their 30 year old barn find will be worth £15,000 after a bit of a wipe down with a damp rag. I have a feeling those times may be over and £700 may become the norm again for this type of motor car.

Just my thoughts of this lovely spring morn.

:-)

We’ve seen it before! E-Types bought for £80k of borrowed money selling for less than £20k!

Could be bubble time, who knows? 🧐

That may well be the case Andrew. Quite a few folk have been trying to talk up the market for 30 year old 240s, I've never really been convinced high prices for 1990ish cars are justified.

I agree. I bought mine because it’s a good car I like and find useful. The value bit is secondary.
It’s a bit like house values; is it a home or an investment. Of course it can be both!😀

Here's one to watch to test that theory:
Desirable spec (Manual, turbo, historic, wheels) but utterly tinwormed and siezed engine... so only worth the scrap unless you're a deluded maniac.

Not a turbo, and allegedly does turn over...but good only for a re-shell / major work.

That ought to be a 140bhp B23E, with an H cam.

cheers

James

Quite right, couldn't see the pipework in the engine bay and seller does say it isn't siezed, but the rot, flat tyres and decrepitude made me read otherwise..

Sadly we're not in MG territory yet, so unless Geely do a Ford and realise there's money* in old metal, no new 240 shells for any money...

* £12k for a new MG shell, so it might be worth it for a P1800 but not a 240.
