@barwick27
That sounds sweet. @mitch1971 I had already spoken to KG a few weeks back but have since used Tinus for the parts. He says our set up will run smoother on 40's but with slightly less power than on 45's which is pretty self explanatory. The reason for all the carb related questions is that they are a bit out of my time hahaha. I'm only 18 and the only carbs I'm familiar with are that on any quads or bikes I've had. |

SUs are a fantastically simple, excellent carb and a good carb to start with. If you have a good pair I'd really consider keeping these as a start at least and they can be tuned to your engine to a certain degree. Webers have a better throttle response apparently but you can get SUs to be good as well. This is an excellent book to read on the SUs: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Carburettor-.../dp/1845840739 and there's some really good videos on you tube as well on how they work etc and once you understand how they work then you'll be laughing. Haha, yeh I'm an engine pervert. I bought a 940 turbo a while back to start getting into tuning more. I upped the injectors in it to 400cc/min from a T5 last week which helped bring an underlying breathing problem up. To cut a long story short, it is now sitting in my yard with the engine in pieces.
I planned to do a mechanical engineering degree next year at university but have since gone off the idea/ may not get the required grades due to Volvos. |

Stick at it, it's a very good degree to have and there currently is a shortage and you can earn good money here and abroad. The best engineers in my opinion are guys that have done a trade first and then gone back to uni after (but I'm a bit biased). I did a trade first as an apprentice fitter and turner and then worked as a tradesman for two years saving the whole time to put myself through uni. I also spent my summer holidays working in coal mines but can definitely say uni was the best time of my life, is very rewarding and made some great friends. Going to uni a bit older isn't a bad thing and I had a much better practical understanding than any of the younger guys due to my trade background but I had to work very hard on my maths due to not doing any for 6 years after school. So if you don't first get the grades keep at it and work hard is my advice as it will pay off in the long run.
