Default Advice - V70 T6 P0420 Code

Hey guys, some advice needed if possible?

I’ve a 2008 Jap Import T6 with about 100K miles on it. In generally great nick. Only issue I’ve had whilst owning it is a random induction coil failure.

I’ve recently starting getting the dreaded P0420 code on the car for the ”Catalytic System below minium threshold”. Took it to a volvo specialist who reckoned it really needed a new Cat and a sensor, cost - £1500…

I’ve found out I can have the ECU mapped (which would bring some performance anyway) and remove the code completely. However, i’ve also recently started to notice a strong oil smell from the car (externally) on every run and this along with the induction coil and cat has me wondering if there’s a bigger fault about to rear its head.

Anyone had this issue on their T6 and if so, any advice?

Thanks
