940 mudflaps.
Ive fitted a pair of spare front 940 mudflaps to my car today, they are fixed with 3 bolts that go though the wheel arch liner into the bodywork via square plastic plugs but on my 940 the two bolts near the wheel arch are infact rivets. Ive drilled them out and got some plastic plugs that clip into the wheel arch to accept the bolts from a pair of spare wings I had knocking about but the holes in the wings on my car are too small and the plastic lugs wont fit. Because of this the mudflaps are only held on with 1 bolt in the middle instead of 3. Does volvo do a fixing kit??

Hello Tim
I have just had a look on my new disc for something to look up and they only show 1 bolt and 2 rivits to fit the mud flaps onto the car. I had a look in the body section and they list 6 off 1267760 nuts that appear to push into the wing. Perhaps someone else can check to make sure I am right, be nice to know if I am looking stuff up correctly ! |

Tim
I took a wing off a 940 in the scrap yard last week. The mudflaps were held on by two big-ish self tapping screws that go into plastic fittings, one in the edge of the wing and one in the edge of the sill. They also go through the plastic wheel liner. The plastic inserts push into holes in the wing and sill and are a tight fit and when the big selt tapping-type screws go in they cause the plastic to expand very slightly and grip more. Just been out to my car and had a look and the fittings there are the same as on the spare wing I got off the scrapyard. There is a strip of what looks like strong plastic (maybe metal) on the outside of the mudflap, that is rivited to the mudflap at each end to give it rigidity. The rivits don't go into the car and would have been put in before the mudflap is fitted. The bolts go through both. Hope this helps. |

The square plastic plugs to speak of seem to be only on the older 940s, on the later ones the wheel arch liner is held on by 2 rivets that pass though small holes- far too small for the plastic plugs to fit.

Getting on a bit

Hi,
Just had to re-fit the back mud flap on my 1998 940 Est, it is held on with 3 self tapping screws, 2 go into plastic clips that slip over the edge of the wing, the 3rd screw goes into the middle of the wheel arch and into a plastic plug, hope this helps,

Just thought I would try this to see if it works. Picture shows 2 types of front mudflap. One looks like it fixes with 3 screws/bolts, the other is held on with rivits and a single screw/bolt
