Default Damaged volvo 740 suspension,

Im thinking of buying a volvo 740GLE estate, G reg, meant to be FSH and excellent condition, except the front passenger wheel has been pushed back into the bulkhead. Many of you may have seen it on ebay.

Im guessing the tie bars either bent in half, or snapped. Is damage like this usually repairable? Is it worth repairing? The cars a 2.3i automatic.

It would be nice to save it from the jaws of the crusher. I think it should have some miles ahead of it.

Tim

Those bars are super-thick. No way has the chassis not been damaged. My guess only not having seen the car but I'd say it is a parts car.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Those tie bars are thick, but thin walled. I have seen one bend and not damage the chassis, but that was only on the one I saw. If somone has had the same experience with their 740 it would be good to hear from them!

Is there a chance the wishbone could have pushed the bush over the "washer" and down the tie bar? Its common on cars like sierras if they hit a kerb hard, and is very easy to fix.

I guess the only soloution is to personally inspect the car. There is no doubt though, that it has suffered a hefty impact. I would be suprised if somthing structural wasnt out of alignment.

Sorry George, I think its me thats the idiot

When I said wishbone, I meant the track control arm. I make the mistake of calling all suspension parts that go directly from the subframe to the wheel a "wishbone"

Come to think of it, I dont think theres many cars on the road that still use "wishbones"

Did not get that volvo in the end. The seller said the chassis was damaged. Looks you was right George! Its back on ebay right now for about a tenner, and its in Buckingham if anyones interested.

The seller is looking for around £100
