This is standard on all Volvos with this type of key (most modern Volvos)
nothing really new. I generally start the car and take the key out. I don't keep my house and cars keys on the same ring but find that the keyring on the key can bang off the dash. No issues with steering lock.

Steering lock won't engage until drivers door is opened, same on all new volvo's
Thats what the zipping sound is when you open door from dash

Question..
once started this way, can I then get out of the car and use the fob to lock the doors? I am thinking winter warm up times here.
