I do not know what the interval change on a 2.9 engine is. However, if you are serious about the car, and this is the only issue that is preventing you from proceeding with purchasing it, I would ensure that the garage are under no illusions about this. In other words, make them an offer for the car subject to the agreed price including a cambelt change prior to you collecting it. If they say no, time to say farewell and keep on looking for just what you want. |

My parents' S80 2.4 170bhp SE is the best car I have had the pleasure of being a passenger in. Absolutely the best back seats ever.
The car seems to go, handle and stop well enough - and it looks beautiful with the T6 wheels as well. Lovely in Venetian Red. |

Don't know hat happens to my posts here - second attempt.
The timing belt renewal interval is 110,000 miles (or 10 years) for petrol engines, 80,000 for diesal. As suggested, make it a condition of purchase for one to be fitted? |

RE: 2.4 170 bhp v t6 se
I saw a post regarding the Gearboxes.
It idicated they go at around 80k.. slight wrong.. they last till around 100k (I have a contact who replaces them for the police) Mine went at 110k and cost 2.5k. Got an intresting fault now on the T5 where the powersteering fluid hoses have melted the fuel line (METAL FUEL LINE!) Volvo blame where and tear. I blame design.. The sections thats gone is the only section not seperate by a clip (No indications that there was one there either).. But anyway back to the Post.. Get a T6.. Fast.. Conforable and stlish. I recently drove mine to Geneva and they sit happily at 140mph doing just over 4,000 RPM. Cheers |

bought a t6 from dealer whilst driving it home warning message appeared transmission fluid overheat and smoke coming from engine compartment i left it to cool and it started again hope i have not done to much damage when i got home and read the manual it said you can overfill with oil i hope this is just the case i checked the dipstick the next morning and the fluid was well over hot level with engine cold anyway it is going into volvo garage asap to get sorted under warranty just my luck to find the car that i want and it breaks down just hope it is a human error and not a mechanical one any suggestions thanks in advance ian

Ian - sorry to hear about your problem. And just when driving it home! I'd make a fair old fuss at the dealer. I'm very cynical about how much 'servicing' or 'checks' they really perform, but Volvo make a lot about the selected used cars things. If it is overfilling, then thats a mistake you and I may make, but not too be expected from a dealer. Keep us infomred as to how things pan out.

If this is a Volvo Assured car you have something like 30 days and 1000 miles to reject it and select another. |

slender the car went back today with a full refund of my money sad in one way but glad in another the service manager said he has had a lot of t6 gearbox failings i think this is a sorry state of affairs for a car that had only done 60000 i thought volvos went on forever as long as they are serviced annually. lost all faith in the brand first and last one i will own one thanks for all help and advice ian
