I put three plates at our cottage 3 years ago as part of a wee trial our old FM Supervisor was doing. Two of the 3 were zinc rich epoxies from International and the other was a whiz bang very expensive epoxy from the US with nano carbon particles (or something like that), the pic shows the plates 3 years ago and how close to the sea the cottage is. All 3 look the same as they did 3 years ago, will need to get another pic on the weekend if I remember.

If you've got most of the heavy rust out and just surface rust, brush on Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer (reddish). It has fish oil and it work swell to seal out moisture that creates further rust. A quart of the stuff is only $15.
If you're worried about structural integrity of the floors, I used epoxy and fiberglass matte on top of primed metal. Several layers is all you need. Make sure you at least epoxy the bottom side after priming to seal and protec the metal. In the US, I can buy an epoxy kit from suppliers for less than $100. It goes a long way and unless exposed to sun, the epoxy will last forever. Plus it is very strong when used with fiberglass fabric. If you're not familiar with epoxy use, there is plenty of info on the internet to guide you. All these high dollar repairs and replacement to floor pans (unless totally eaten up) are excessive, in my opinion. |
