Put a D5 engine in a classic v70/s70? I know the mounts are all very similar, and you would need some fairly inventive wiring, but it's possible, isn't it? Does anyone know anyone who has done it??

Of course it can be done, anything can be achieved with a deep enough pocket. My only question would be why would you want to? The diesel engine in the classic v70 is in my opinion far superior in terms if reliability and quality. The only thing I can see that would be gained is a very small increase in mpg, which would take a lifetime to offset the cost of the conversion.

Part of me agrees with you, as my daily is a 2.5d auto which I really really love, she's done just shy of 290,000 miles and still looks and goes well.... I wouldn't convert this car, but fancy doing it to another. The D5 is definitely a better engine though, it's quieter and smoother, and lots faster.... As these cars get cheaper, I think I can build one cheaply.
