Default Reverse camera on XC60

Hi,

I'm looking at getting the reverse camera fitted on my 2015 XC60.

I've just been told by the dealership that I need to get the rear parking sensors fitted first as the camera uses them to measure the distance...

As I've got the R-Design, this doesn't come with them as standard and I've been quoted £1,400 in total for the camera and sensors.

Can anyone tell me if the camera will work without the parking sensors? There is no mention of needing them on the Volvo Accessories website

You are right , there is nothing saying you MUST have the rear parking sensors , They are a useful extra to have as they show on the screen graphically where the obstacles are as well as the usual audio beeps , but with a camera you don't need them .

There are a lot of pre requisites before the rear camera will fit .

Is the chassis number above 559323 ?
Do you have BLIS or Bending headlights or power rear head restraints ?
Do you have Factory option 820 ? ( wiring loom for camera ) ? Unlikely ..

also do you have the 5" or the 7 " screen ?

Your dealer should be sorting this out for you if they hope to take £1400 off you . go back and demand they do what they are paid to do !

price includes fitting.

I'll check the chasis number later.

I got quoted £500 for the sensors, and £900 for the camera which seems steep to me, looking at the instructions the cable harness is there and it just means popping a few panels off and fitting it and then putting the button in!

Plus the software which isn't free (although most people seem to think it is - or should be)

Only if the car has option code 820 , this is specified at time of ordering the car , people wont pay about £75 for it then not use it ..
You will notice there is an option of extra parts if you do NOT have option code 820 , which means extra cost in parts and labour , hence the £900 no doubt , but you need to answer all the questions i asked ..

My car has option 820 as confirmed by the dealership.
I do not have BLIS or Bending headlights or power rear head restraints.

Another Volvo Dealership has just confirmed I do not need the parking sensors for the camera to work as it's completely independent and as I have option 820 it's a relatively simple install so it only costs £500...a bit of a difference.

I've just challenged the dealership who said I need parking sensors and have told me they will only fit the camera with the sensors as the camera won't work properly...guess which dealership my car will be going to!

looks like a satisfactory result ... I would go back and contact the general manager about the parking sensor issue ..

I have the camera but no sensors why do you need them both, Although I did think when I purchased you would get sound as well as camera but read it wrong.

If I had my choice again I would never get the camera I prefer the sound a lot mire.
