Arrow Breaker 2006 S60 D5 (185) Geartronic for sale Lancashire

I am going to be scrapping my 2006 S60 D5(185) Geartronic due to structural corrosion ( holed ) at the top of the McPherson strut towers.

The towers are not collapsing or anywhere near but it will not pass its next MOT at the end of February without welding and I wonder if that is even possible.

The car originated in Scotland and I suspect salty winter roads are the cause.

I have had the car for 2 1/2 years and it is on 148K having been 135K when I bought it.

Full service history to 135K then I have done servicing including oil and filter changes etc to current mileage.

I have done 4 auto gearbox sump dumps in the last 13K miles and the car drives well.

It had cambelt and pump done at Brynn Motors local Volvo indi less than 13K ago soon after I bought it and the invoice for that is present.

It had two new Cross Climate tyres on the front about 12 months ago and the rear tyres are good. 17 inch wheels.

It is in daily use and is currently taxed/insured and can be test driven but I have bought an XC90 recently and will be changing my insurance over to it on 1st December.

Body panels are reasonable but there are some blemishes.

I bought from a forum member and the colour is Cedar Green.

If no one has bought it by 30 November it will be going to a local breakers as I will not be breaking it.

Over the next 4 days I'm going to be going to local breakers to see what they offer.

I think £600 is reasonable but you need to be quick - by 30 th November as it will have gone to the breakers otherwise.

I only today thought of putting it on here before taking to the breakers.

Paperwork and V5 present.

Photos to follow.

The car is in Leigh, Lancs about 4 miles from the M6.

Colin 07770 140093

EDIT: BTW the reg No is OV56UED.

EDIT 2: Black leather interior in good condition.

Edit 3: I can pick up viewers at the local train or bus station if needed.

Arrow S60 breaker - this mornings photos.

These are this mornings photos - very wet here.

The photo where I am pointing at the strut tower is indicating where there is a hole that is about 3 x 1 inches.

I filled it a little while ago for cosmetic appearance and to last as far as the MOT but a good XC90 appeared locally so I bought it.

The other strut tower isn't holed but is showing rust in the same area.

The value in the car I think is in the engine and gearbox, doors boot and bonnet, wheels and interior etc.

Its not for me, but thought I'd note that I've read of the strut tower rust issue in North American cars. It can be welded. Be a shame to let something like that to pull the car off the road.

weld it and sell as a complete car i had mine welded 2 yrs ago an had no problems since it is a common problem with p2 cars and it will be a lot less trouble than breaking.

I won't be breaking it myself anyway as I don't have the space or inclination - someone else may like to if they don't decide to weld it.

Also I have now got an XC90 - I had been thinking about one for a while as I was finding it more difficult getting into the S60 at 70 years old and the XC90 is a higher door entry.

It does look a very tidy car and as previously said is a crying shame for that car to go to the breakers, i hope someone takes it on as that is a straightforward job, just removing the suspension strut and welding a patch in surely can't be corroded more than a patch, I know for a garage to do it would be around 500 quid, so classed as a uneconomical repair but for someone doing it themselves would be minimal materials, just labour, good luck with it.

Yes i know of Autoweld, fair prices but as you know many garages just hike up their prices when the word-Welding is mentioned, but £500 was a ballpark figure but there are garages who wouldn't want to dirty their hands for less than a grand, and the chap just wants it gone now as he's got another volvo, i took the opportunity last year when changing the top strut mounts to re-furb my turrets and there was just minimal surface rust to sort out.
