Default Egr valve error

hello, I have a 2011 v70 d5 ex-police with 215k on the clock. Getting the error code which refers to egr valve stuck open. Also when engine is ticking over it sounds like there is a bass speaker under the bonnet. We get intermittent loss of power when accelerating. .
I sprayed egr cleaner in the air intake but even tho improved the power loss it hasn't solved the problem.

Has anybody got any ideas ? Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Neil

I expect it is going to need cleaning out directly rather than just with spray down inlet. Common issue on diesel engines.

Its a messy job, so have plenty of old towels & cloths handy.

Disconnect the battery, unclip the MAF sensor, lift air box out of way & the EGR is on the side of the block (passenger side). Depending how bad it is, it could take you a while to clean it. Have plenty of carb cleaner handy, brushes etc.

Given it a good clean out with nearly 2 cans of carb cleaner. Used a soft wire toothbrush to get off the stubborn tar. All looked clean around piston area. Just taken it out for a drive after clearing the error codes and even tho engine bass noise gone still get intermittent boost. Most of time get full boost but then for no reason will loose all boost when accelerating. Any ideas ?
Thanks

I’m assuming there’s no fault codes?

-Could be a dirty fuel filter.

-Could be a boost sensor.

-Check hoses around turbo for any splits. Check underneath the car too.

-Check intercooler for any leaks.

So that code has reappeared since deleting it?

You might have to take the EGR off again to see if the flap inside it moves as it should (sounds like it isn’t). You might be able to free it up with some lubrication. If its stuck solid even after cleaning, then you’ll need a new EGR valve.

If its stuck open, it will affect your performance.

Check what I’ve mentioned above though too (hoses, intercooler). Any splits in them can cause boost problems.
