Default V70 D3 second service - 36k miles

I've just been quoted £459 for my next service (D3 - 18 months old), seems alot, and includes a new belt and tensioner - can that be right at only 36k miles?!

Quote looks like this:

36k service to 15060-0 £128.80
Oil £87.95
Environmental disposal charge £9.00
AO5D01 washer fluid £1.10
AO2A02 filter insert (air) £17.20
A03E01 particulate filter £21.40
A03B01 filter insert (oil) £8.80
B01 belt tensioner £52.50
B01 belt £26.80
A03C03 filter insert (fuel) £28.20
E04E06 gasket £1.10

VAT £76.57
Total £459.42

Any views or experience?!

You could cut down on that cost by sourcing your own 'Genuine' parts from elswhere such as ebay or give FRF a call. You could then present your car to your dealer with all the bits and just pay for the Service part? You could easily save over £100 by getting your parts alone.

After all they can't reallypenalise you for not buying the parts from that particular dealer and as long as your parts are Genuine ones and the oil the correct spec then there should be no problem.

Best to get quotes from a few places so you can compare.

What I do (with anything I buy) is find out what is a realistic price from a few places, then decide who I wish to buy from then make them an offer.

Prices aren't set in concrete I find, and there is generally movement downwards if asked

Regards

I've recently had my 3rd service on my 2009 S80 2.0d. Including MOT it was £495.

I think that Volvo has increased the price of services now that they include 1 yr breakdown cover, software upgrades etc These things aren't 'free' and you certainly pay for them!

Unless your service schedule is different from mine - and I doubt it very much - auxiliary belt tensioner and belt itself should be changed only after 54k miles or 10 years (whichever comes earlier). So I would question that in the first place.
I have paid around £280 for my second service in December 2010 so I guess if you strip ca. £160 from the quoted sum you should not be far away.
Good luck!

I am a bit worried now as my dealer has quoted £289 for the D5 205ps 2 year service which included the brake fluid change too. Goes in next week so will report back.

Why are you worried? Your local dealer (Chippenham?) has an EXCELLENT reputation.

Yes I find MRG very good to deal with and apart from Service 1 and fitting some front sensors plus belt/oil level recalls the car has been A1. But even allowing for my 10% discount through VOC what is undertaken seems extremely good value for the quoted price.......software upgrade, courtesy car, wash and vac, Volvo Assist plus a service and brake fluid change too!

it depends on the model year , whether the outer aux belt and tensioner are changed at 36000 or 54000 .

Clan, tommyweaves's car is due for its 18 month service, which dates it probably at September 2010 (ish). Is that MY on a 36,000 mile aux belt and tensioner change schedule?
