Default xc70 rubber gearbox

hello all new here , i have a noisey whining transfer box on the old xc70 2001 im wondering if these boxes are a diy re,build or specialist only. do these cars whine anyway or are they usually very quiet.Does any one know weather it will explode or just keep going with knackered bearings i have still got all wheels being driven tested on a ramp

since i posted this question i decided to remove the transfer box for a look, ah propshaft side bearing shedding metlic particles and notchy when turned this is where the whine is coming from, but the input shaft splines are a little rounded on the transfer box so thats had it. will look around for a good box and buy a newcollar as mine is not as good as it could be, this box has covered 170,000 miles not bad i think. now running front wheel drive till parts found.
