Default Foglight to DRL Conversion V70 2001 MY

I thought this might be useful if anyone else is thinking of converting their foglights to DRLs.

I first tried using LED bulbs in the existing foglights, I wasn't happy with the results, they were bright but still foglights with a cut off beam.

In the end I decided to remove the reflector from the foglight and mount an off the shelf DRL into the foglight frame. I bought a couple of non-OEM foglights off the bay of e just in case I messed up or wanted to put things back in the future.

The DRLs I used are 70mm, E marked and so should be road legal.

Switching is done using a CFE (Canbus Function Extender) from Volvotech, although it wouldn't be too much harder to wire in DRLs, they all seem to come with a driver box with wiring to switch off when sidelights are on etc.

As I used the existing foglight wiring I reduced the fuse value to 5A, the same as the inline fuse that came with the DRLs but didn't get used as it would have been under the bonnet and wasn't waterproof.

These are the DRL modules mounted in the foglight with reflector and bulb removed.

Foglights with LED bulbs. The picture doesn't show it that well but there is a definite cut-off in the light and a beam rather than a block of light.
