1.8 GDI rpm goes up but no acceleration
So recently my car has started to go bad I think.
Whenever I try to accelerate the rpm flies up and I have to accelerate really slow to avoid the rpm go up and actually get the car to move. I think it's due to the transmission of my card, i read that I need to either swap the transmission or put new transmission fluid in the card. I have some questions regarding the transmission fluid, where is the dipstick located on a 1.8gdi 2001? Can't find it watching this video: https://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2...ck_fluid_level Also where is the fluid holder under the car so I can flush it |

Presuming it's a manual, sounds like the clutch is slipping to me.

Assuming auto box here then from what I've read elsewhere on the forum the dipstick for the gearbox should be near the battery tray[don't forget level should be checked with engine up to temperature and if it's not been taken for a drive then cycle the gear selector through all positions pausing at each for a couple of seconds] then with selector in park and engine running and car sitting level check he fluid level. When doing this check also the colour of the fluid and sniff it to ascertain if it smells burnt. As far as I can tell there is no oil pan/sump on these gearboxes simply a drain plug[drain when warm]you'll need to do several "flushes" to change all the fluid. If you're good with the spanners it may be just as cheap/quick to source a known good used box and swap them, however do try to confirm that the gearbox is the issue in the first place[although it does sound like it is].Of course if it's a manual box then as Clarky1984 suggests it sounds like a slipping clutch but there'd be no gearbox dipstick.

If its manual, the fluid won't make a blind bit of difference in this scenario.
The only thing that will work is a new clutch im afraid. (Unless it has a cable clutch and someone has adjusted it too far, but even then, most cable clutches in the past 20 years are self adjusting so that wont happen) |

A manual box would have a drain plug set low down or on the bottom of the box casing with a filler/level plug set further up the casing, however as AndyV70 says the fluid would have no bearing on this issue it definitely sounds like a slipping clutch caused by 1]wear 2]oil contamination[from a failing rear crank seal for instance] 3] poor adjustment.Whether this is cost effective to fix is something only you can decide but as is the car would be worth very little to sell on so what would you get as a replacement that doesn't have at least the possibility of needing money spent on it?
