If you do go for it, just be sure it is a twin piston type.

Short of actually having it in your hands and taking it apart, find out what make/model it is, and do some research. There are copies available which look exactly like the original, but which are not. Most of the more expensive ones are (Baileys, Forge, Turbosmart, HKS etc), though there are still single piston designs out there, which have been found to give problems with the T4.
I used a Forge on mine which worked perfectly, and have had HKS SSQV's on my previous Subarus. They do cost mind, the Forge kit being around £170, and the HKS, £220 plus. But like anything, you get what you pay for.... Just beware when fitting, that you want to put the valve as close to the TB as practical. The standard pipework doesn't lend itself well to that, as the part nearest the TB is curved. Also, if you have a valve that has a top takeoff for the vacuum line to the inlet manifold, watch that this does not foul on the rubber strip on the inside of the bonnet. I cut a 2" section from that, so as not to kink the line. And the supplied silicone hoses are not good for the takeoff point on the inlet manifold, which comes out vertically. Due to the location of the valve, the hose requires to turn sharply at the takeoff, and I found that the silicone line sheared at that turn. Heavier duty hosing as used in an aquarium did the trick better. |
