Default C30 2.0D or D3

Hi,

Considering purchasing a C30, I've done a little research and I've gathered < 2010 models used a 2 litre diesel from Ford (136bhp) version and 2011 onwards used a volvo modified 2.4 for the 150bhp diesel.

Question I have is which one is the most reliable/ better to live with? You would assume the later Volvo one but then again the Ford diesel, in a Mondeo say have know to be workhorses.

I ask because In my budget i could get a 2.0D on 49,000 or a D3 on 69,000 ... naturally I like the sound of the lower miles 2.0D 2010 model but then again the D3 would be aassumed a more reliable one at higher miles and gives better MPG and cheaper road tax.

Advice is welcomed ! New to forum, will be interested to read around. THanks.

You'll like the sound of the extra cylinder with the d3. Has to be d3 for me you want a Volvo so why not get a Volvo engine. The Peugeot engine is far more troublesome and sounds like a bucket of bricks but that's just my opinion. I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole!

Hi thanks for the reply. Interesting you say Peugeot...? I read Ford or was that relating to the 1.6 petrol engine ?

So with a D3 on 70,000 would i expect any major maintenance around then - known major failures or Cam belt interval?

D3 D3 D3 Oh yeah the D3,

108k or 10 years is belt intervals,

70k is nothing for a 5 pot volvo diesel engine as long as it is looked after

I assumed as much with the Volvo engine beingredients the best, I don't think I account for its history completely being a 6+ year old car although it has service history but is due one as it hasn't been serviced for 10,000 miles over 2 years. The pads and discs were knackered All around despite bring highlighted on previous MOT but the dealer is putting it in the workshop to service / do what it needs so i will see the feedback from that and consider it then. Only other issue is I'm two sided on the Burnt orange of the car colour lol but I find the D3 is rare to come my at a good mileage/price for me.

Can anyone recommend a good company for a reconditioned gear box for a 2011 C30 diesel C30 volvo. Have been quoted £1400 + vat.
