Looks like you need to be squeaky clean, live like a Saint and bullet proof before they will consider cover

I'd happily go with them if they offered me a sensible quote, was well over a grand last renewal for me, compared to admiral multicar which was a grand for me and my partner on both cars with euro cover, and full breakdown cover + euro breakdown cover on mine.

Extremely uncompetitive for me, IIRC nearly double what I eventually paid.

50-something old fogey, squeaky clean record (touches wood), rural home counties.

I was with Volvo insurance for a few years, but that was a while ago, so they may have changed - I moved when they started to get more expensive. I'm with LV Frizzell (& have been for most of the last 20 years). They get good reviews, and seem very competent when I've phoned them about queries.

I pay approx £145 FC (11 year-old V70/170 manual), max NCB, limited to 10k miles/year, policy covers commuting to work but not business use, self & misses both with clean licences, Suffolk. I don't take the legal cover since I have it from at least 3 other sources, & I don't take the courtesy-car option. I may also have to pay extra for European cover; can't remember without checking.

Automatics are more expensive to insure (I used to have a Merc with a manual gear lever but no clutch pedal, & that was classed as an auto for insurance purposes, adding £30 to the insurance IIRC).

Tim.

I checked about 3 months ago and they were comparable to Admiral but im presently getting ripped off as I have fallen into the regular renewal without fully checking trap.
Im about to renew so will let you know quote against others.
Cover appears very good but royal and sun alliance is the underwriter.

I used them for about 8 years and found them very good to deal with; at the time, they were based in Halifax and the call centre staff were always pleasant and very efficient but I did notice a change when they moved to Birmingham; the tone of the renewal letters changed and the staff there were less friendly. The cover was good value though, there were no extras; continental cover with green card, hire car, cover for other cars driven by policyholder, legal cover etc. were all standard.
The only problem was that they started to get quite expensive; I did not mind paying £50 more because the cover was so good, but when it became more than £100 adrift, I started to shop around. Since I left Volvo, I have insured with a different insurer every year which is a bit of a pain, but it has saved a lot of money.
I did get a quote from Volvo last year and it was not too far out, so I will try them again this year. If they can get within £40 of the cheapest other quote, they will get my business.

I used to be with them but when they wouldn't match a quote from More Than I left them and went to Aviva who were a lot cheaper. Volvo Insurance went from being cheaper than the market to much more expensive over a period of about 7 years.

More Than and Volvo Insurance are both part of the same company - what we used to call Royal and Sun Alliance
