Default Quality of service from dealer

Hi,

I am quite new to the forums and the proud owner of my first Volvo an R reg V40.

Through most of the forums the dealers are referred to in less than friendly terms and in some cases deserve it, however I just wanted to say how good the service was that I recieved from Hearlands Motor Company, Bromford Lane, Erdington.

Unlike the city branch they didn't sniff at me for walking in wearing jeans and suggesting they service a car older than 4 years nor did they look down on me as a marvelled at the lovley site of a brand new fully kitted V70. Instead they changed a few bulbs that had blown while I waited and booked the car in for service.

On service day I was given a loan car that was practically new(thanks, I now know never to buy a Focus, hated the thing) and kept informed of the work as it progressed, all the minor problems with the car were sorted for me at very little additional cost.

I would like to single out David for his assistance during the whole procedure, i knew exaclty what was happening and what the cost was going to be at any point, a rare pleasure.

Here's another one, I have praised Cambridge Volvo in the past, yet again they delivered excellent service. Yesterday I called in with the Lambda light on. I was seen immediately by Stewart, the workshop foreman, who told me to have a cup of coffee while he had a look at it for.
Only got half way through the coffee before he was back, problem solved, loose sensor connection under the hood, no charge, excellent.
Its good to see and make these comments of praise for good service, as I think we may all be guilty of shaming rather than praising.

I'd certainly second that praise of Volvo Cambridge, I called by with a duff immobiliser sensor (had to take out fuse no. 6, you know the game) and within an hour they'd reset it and I'd had 2 cups of fresh coffee and watched my favourite Thomas the Tank Engine episode on their lobby TV ... well, little things ...

Also got lots of time for the guys at King's of Witcham, near Ely, independent non-franchise but purely Volvo for many years, go a long way out of their way to be helpful.

No, they tried to. Wanted 45 mins @ £75/hour to code a key for me. When I questioned the length of time they as good as told me I could take my business elsewhere. So I did. That's one less customer they have.

Once again it's a case of the large company buying out the smaller one as they can't compete for customer care, and then as a final humiliation closing them down.
Marshalls did this to Lancaster in Huntingdon. Lancaster's were excellent. Friendly, extremely helpful, not so big that you felt intimidated and you didn't have to spend hours in Cambridge traffic. Marshall's bought them, then immediately shut them. They thought all their customers would go to Cambridge instead. How wrong they were.
There's an excellent Vauxhall (yes, I know) dealership in St Ives. I know how good they are as my wife's S40 was purchased from them. They were recently bought out by their Cambridge rival. Now they're facing closure too.
No wonder there are so many people on these forums looking for independents. For all those in the Cambs/Herts area, go see Tony at Independent Volvo Services.com in Letchworth. Been down there twice recently, he knows his stuff (he ought to with 27 years experience)and is a thoroughly nice guy.
